About the coin:
- Minted: Rome, 116-115 B.C.
- Front: Head of Roma
- Reverse: Jupiter in Quadriga.
The front of the coin depicts the head of Roma - a female deity who personified the city of Rome, and symbolized the ideal woman in society.
The quadriga (four-horse chariot) used in Roman chariot racing, was usually employed by the Roman Republican denarii. The quadriga was also known as the chariot of the gods. This particular denarius is ridden by Jupiter, god of thunder and the skies, the ultimate god of the Romans (reverse side of the coin).
