Our Favorite Gemstones: Pink Tourmaline

Our Favorite Gemstones: Pink Tourmaline

Pink tourmaline comes from the amazing rainbow tourmaline family and proves to be another spectacular gemstone. From its colorful hues to its historic background of fooling people as a ruby, this stone couldn’t be more interesting.

The name tourmaline comes from the ancient Singhalese word “tourmali” which means “stone of mixed color.” Pink tourmaline was discovered many years ago and was believed to be a ruby.

One interesting discovery of what was thought to be a 250 carat ruby is that of “Caesar’s Ruby.” Later it was revealed by advanced science that the stone was actually a rubellite (pink tourmaline), however, the value of the stone was still very high.

Tourmaline was first discovered in Brazil in the 1500s. Today the stone can still be found in Brazil as well as other parts of South America, North America, Europe, and Africa. Africa is currently the main source of tourmaline.

Pink tourmaline is the alternate birthstone for the month of October and the eighth year anniversary gemstone. This gorgeous stone helps to create feelings of joy and happiness. It also supports peace during times of transformation.
