Store your jewelry properly.
Gold is one of the least reactive metals, so oxygen does not cause tarnishing the same way it does with silver. It's still recommended to store your 14kt gold pieces in a cloth bag somewhere safe (like your jewelry box) to prevent weathering when you're not wearing it.
Avoid wearing jewelry while swimming, showering, or working out.
Humidity and moisture will tarnish silver more quickly (which isn't great news for those of us in Texas!), so it's important to take your jewelry off before engaging in any of these activities (plus, it isn't worth the risk of losing your beautiful jewelry!).
Polish your jewelry each time you wear it.
One simple, easy way to prevent tarnishing is to use a soft, dry polishing cloth on your jewelry each time you wear it, then store it properly in resealable or cloth bags.
Avoid letting your jewelry come in contact with beauty products or chemicals.
Whether you're cleaning the house or getting ready for a fun evening out on the town, it's important to be aware of if your jewelry is coming in contact with beauty products or chemicals. We have had customers come to us for jewelry repair and cleaning because their fine jewelry came into direct contact with various harsh cleaning chemicals and was then impacted somehow.
In general, put on your body lotion, perfume, deodorant, hairspray, etc. BEFORE putting on your lovely jewelry!
